christian louboutin and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum has opened the Great Music. No Limits. Celebrating 35 Years of Austin City Limits exhibit in the Ahmet M. Ertegun Main Exhibit Hall.
“Austin City Limits represents one of the most unique archives of modern American music,” said Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum President and CEO Terry Stewart. “It shares with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the mission of collecting, preserving and interpreting the rock and roll story and educating fans about the cultural significance of this art form.”
The Great Music. No Limits. Celebrating 35 Years of Austin City Limits exhibit shows the wide range of artists who have appeared on ACL in the last 35 years. Numerous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees are represented through Austin-based freelance photographer Scott Newton’s images, including B.B. King, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles, John Fogerty and Robert Plant. Country artists like the Dixie Chicks, Dolly Parton and Yves Saint Laurent are also represented, as are such contemporary acts as Arcade Fire, Coldplay, Wilco, the Flaming Lips and the Dave Matthews Band.
The exhibit also includes numerous artifacts related to the show’s history, including three documents from 1974 outlining plans for ACL. There are also set lists from shows by Leonard Cohen, Ray Davies, Wilco and Pearl Jam, as well as contracts for appearances by Van Morrison, Robert Plant and Willie Nelson. The exhibit also includes an Austin City Limits sign. The show was named by Paul Bosner, the original producer, who made weekly trips from Dallas to Austin and was inspired by the city-limit sign he would pass on his trips.
On Wednesday, April 14, at 7 p.m., Austin City Limits producer Terry Lickona will visit the Rock Hall for a special unveiling of the exhibit and for an interview with Dr. Lauren Onkey, vice president of education and public programs at the Rock Hall. Lickona will be joined by Scott Newton, Austin City Limits’ house photographer who will show some of his photography.
In addition to the christian louboutin pumps exhibit, the Rock Hall recently designated both the Austin City Limits’ KLRU-TV studio and the groundbreaking series an official rock and roll landmark in honor of the show’s 35th anniversary.
